Michael Adel is an Egyptian writer, poet, journalist, and filmmaker. He graduated from the Physiotherapy Medicine School and worked in the medical field for a while, until he decided to switch his career and follow his real passion, film. He studied filmmaking at Hollywood Film Institute and then obtained a film production diploma from the American university in Cairo.

He wrote and directed two short films, “Pyramid, Pyramid/Haram, Haram” (2016) and the award-winning “A Bedtime Tale” (2018). He worked as a first assistant director for the feature film “Wonder Box/ Sandoq El Donia” (2020). He wrote and directed the documentary miniseries about the history of Egyptian entertainment industry “Garage Studio” (2020) and drama sketch segments for the TV talk show “Mabrouk’s Talk” (2021). He wrote “Dayman Amer” (2022), a 30-episode TV drama series for Ramadan, the biggest TV drama season in the Middle East.

Michael has published a couple of poetry books in Egypt: “Song, Paper and Pen” and “Nazar/Vision” which won Sawiris Poetry Award in 2016. As a journalist, after getting a journalism training at Deutsche Welle Akademie, and along with his main job as a medic, he worked for several Egyptian, regional and international newspapers and news agencies, including “Youm 7’”, “El Badil”, “Al Ahram Al Arabi”, “Al Akhbar, Lebanon”, “Assafir Al Arabi”, Al Hurra TV channel, a U.S. government-owned Arabic TV channel that broadcasts to audiences in the MENA and HuffPost Arabic, an American news website, with localized and international editions.
